I Cease to be Amazed!
I am so hoping there is more information that I have not received, regarding the summer bid package just posted. By memo from management, it appears the company now expects any operator performing Everett Shuttle Services, the largest portion of our overall annual work, to drive their personal vehicle at their personal expense, to Everett where their paid time will begin and end. Over and above this, you are expected to clean the interior of the vehicle and fuel the vehicle at nearby-though remote sites, either during your thirty minute pre-trip time or your fifteen minute post trip times as allocated by the bid package.
I cannot afford the reduction in pay compounded by the increase in vehicular cost and maintenance. Of course, with the shorter shifts, you can work more of them. Never mind this will increase your un-paid time and expense performing company business at your cost. Perhaps we'll obtain even more Boeing work when we stop charging sixty-six deadhead miles with each run. I doubt the company factored in additional deadhead for the many shift changes, however carpooling relief drivers has minimized that expense.
For those of you that live in the Everett - Mukilteo area, this will be great. You'll no longer have to drive to Seattle to start your day. Unfortunately, for those like myself, this will mean the end of my service on one of the few runs I actually enjoy. Perhaps, that really is all this is about, not for me personally, but for many of us. It's been a great run - perhaps its come to an end.
I have emailed management my concerns and will hopefully have some positive response soon.
Please note, the author of the management memo is only a messenger. This had to come from much higher up. I can't imagine any manager liking a system whereby employees report to an unsupervised site. No longer will managers/dispatchers have the luxury of knowing employees did not report on time, at least not in time to do anything about it.
