ELECTIONS IN NOVEMBER

Elections are coming up for positions on the Local Committee of Adjustment.  This would include the Chairperson, Vice-Chairpersons, Secretary, Delegate and Alternate Delegate.

Those interested in running for an office or nominating someone have two options:

1. Get a nomination form indicating the position you are running for.  You must get 5 signatures from current union members on the form to validate it.  Turn it in to Wayne Ingersoll, locker #9, or at the next union meeting on Oct. 10th.

2. Attend the Oct. 10th union meeting where nominations will be taken from the floor by those present.  This will be the latest date that nomination forms can be turned in.

BOWLING LEAGUE

Our bowling night on Aug. 30th was very enjoyable for those who were able to make it. Unfortunately, turnout was low due to a multiple-bus move and the new Navy contract.  The plans for that evening of fun were made before we got that military move.

We are interested in starting a league with the union members and having a little friendly competition.  The bowling alley that we used for the party mentioned the option of FLEX-LEAGUES.  Smaller groups could get together to bowl at different times and the scores would be recorded and compared with the other GLS bowlers.

In our business, it is difficult to get everyone together at the same time.  So, if we split it in smaller groups, some could bowl in the mornings, some midday, and others at night.  See RODNEY if you are interested.  Even if you are not the world’s greatest bowler, handicaps can be determined to assist.  The whole point is to get together with fellow drivers and shop personnel and have a great time!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY

People might forget what you say.

People might forget what you did, but

People will never forget how you made them feel.

SEPT. UNION MEETING TOPICS

Airporter service needs detailed operational guidelines for new drivers as well as reminding those who might have picked up a few bad habits. The Chairman has not received any copies of accident notices or determinations.  We must not have had any accidents.  Congratulations to all you safe drivers out there!  Keep up the good work.

Some grievances are in the works.

Reflective vests need to be worn by washrack personnel at night for safety reasons.

Airporter coaches seem to be having quite a few mechanical issues as of late.

As the season winds down, look for more “quality control” individuals making observations.

South Lake Union schedule changes - company wants to go back to the way it was before.  They rejected the union proposal for shortening the shifts a bit and adding eveing shifts that would tie with Night Ride.

Airporter ticketing problems at Seatac were experienced by several drivers.

NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

Our first meeting with the Company will be on Oct. 2nd.  We have 14 meetings scheduled at this time.  Your UTU team has been preparing and organizing our proposals.  We look forward to working on improving things around here.  We will keep you posted as to our progress.
