The August Union meeting brought forth discussion regarding Dept. of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Laws that now tighten the reigns of your personal driving habits to your occupation. Article 383.51 of the "FMCSR" covers all of the parameters potentially removing you from your job, as well as the duration for which you would be ineligible to drive. Table two shows that any combination of three qualifying citations in your personal vehicle, within a three year period, will mandate your removal from the job. Under certain parameters, two offenses can remove you from the job. The United Transportation Union has spent a great deal of time and effort to present legislation altering this bill to protect your job. Although each of us, as professionals are conscientious drivers, it is too easy to acquire two of these citations over a thirty-six month period. This is especially so when traveling to unfamiliar surroundings such as a vacation out of state.
I received a letter (many of you did, too) from James Brunkenhoefer, alias Broken Rail, outlining our efforts. He extends an invitation to each of you to be included in his communication network.
