As your committee of adjustment reviews the obligations and expenditures of the local, preparing it's proposal to see us into the future, it is important that you know how your dues are used.

There are two portions of dues that comprise your monthly payment.

  1. As of January 1st 2008, $22.50 for each active member (those not on E-49 status) goes to the International. This figure was increased on January 1 by the International. The International, through vote of the board of directors, has the ability to increase dues by a maximum of $2.00 without vote of the membership. Any increase larger than $2.00 requires a vote cast by each delegate, per the wishes of the delegates local. In October 2005, such a vote was taken for a proposed $5.00 increase, which was voted down.

Our $22.50 per month to the International breaks down as follows:

    • $13.50 International Dues -

      • $10.50 to the General Fund - These funds cover the everyday operation of the Union, including salaries of officers and employees, and all supplies used by the International.

      • $ 1.00 is for the convention fund - As implied, this account funds the quadrennial conventions.

      • $ 1.00 is for the membership fund - these funds are used for organizing.

      • $  .25 is for public relations - Funds are self explanatory

      • $  .75 is for the strike fund - Funds are self explanatory

    • $9.00 State Legislative Dues - These funds cover operating expenses of our State Legislative Office. That includes salary, office, and operating expenses.

  2. Currently $13.00 for full-time drivers and $4.00 for Part-time drivers goes to local dues.

    • $6.00 goes to the Local Fund ($2.00 per part time driver) Local funds cover our annual picnics, donations made by the local, meeting expenses, salaries of local president and secretary-treasurer, stationary, etc.

    •  $7.00 goes to General Committee of Adjustment - LCA. ($2.00 per part time driver) These funds cover negotiations and similar actions, as well as General Chairperson salary.

Currently Salaries are:

General Chairperson receives a paltry $300.00 per month before taxes.  That is a net of $232.05 per month. We expect our General Chairperson to be available to resolve disputes of any kind in a timely manner. Additionally, we expect this office to be in tune with the Membership so as to effectively negotiate fair and equitable contracts time and time again. This requires regular meetings with management and hours of recordkeeping, letter composition, and general oversight on our behalf. Given the number of hours required of this office, monthly wage should be at least $750.00, or $580.13 per month after tax.

Secretary-Treasurer receives $1.50 per active member per month. Obviously, this figure varies monthly based on how many individuals are on E-49 status. On average, our S&T receives less than $150.00 per month after taxes. This is absurd! Doing this job effectively and accurately requires an average of one hour per day.

President - receives $50.00 per month, before taxes. This salary is currently fair and equitable. Duties of this position require conducting the monthly meetings and oversight of local funds as well as countersigning all checks for payments.

Trustees - $50.00 per year, before taxes. This is currently fair and equitable. Duties of this position require one meeting per year to review the books to insure that all functions have been performed, and all cash is accountable.

Vice Chairpersons - $0.00 Workload varies per needs of membership and assignments by General Chairperson. Currently, the only remuneration these individuals receive is reimbursement for lost wages, assuming their duties predicate missing a scheduled assignment. Some form of remuneration needs to be considered.

All officers are reimbursed for lost wages if required to forego assignments for the sole purpose of conducting union business.
