As reported at our monthly meeting, mailings from UTU Headquarters are starting to arrive. These mailings contain the pertinent information regarding the disability insurance negotiated by the International, for all UTU Members. The rates reflected in this package are the results of pooling all 85,000 active members, therefore the premiums are very reasonable.

Watch your mailbox and do not discard any mailings from the UTU! Bus members will be enrolled in this program as the third phase, to be completed by March, 2010. Enrollment is automatic. If you do not want to be enrolled in this plan, you must follow directions enclosed and return the opt out waiver to the International. As the instructions indicate, opt-out cards returned to/in the possession of the local treasurer will not be honored. If you choose to opt out, these cards must be completed and returned in a timely manner, directly to the International.

This insurance plan is not medical insurance. It is disability insurance, which will pay you a weekly stipend should you get hurt and be unable to work. Many of you may have this type of insurance through another source. I urge you to read the fine print carefully, and compare it to whatever you may already have.
