Company Suggest Airporter Uniforms
Once again the Company has developed an idea to make us look "unique" in the market place. The last time such a plan was developed we went from looking like Professional Motor Coach Operators to appearing as Minimum Wage Gas Station Attendants. According to rumor, the new idea intended for Airporter use is described as "Taxi Cab" yellow. Can you imagine that on someone with a physique like mine? I can see people walking up to me trying to place their fare in my ear! I mean really, can you see myself, or certain female management members, dressed in taxi-cab yellow standing on the curb at the airport? Hilarious, or perhaps not so hilarious visions of the public trying to find the door handles come to mind!
The good news is that our contract defines airporter uniforms as "Optional". This will allow those of you feeling that "yellow" is not a complimentary color to continue wearing the gas station attire for the remainder of the existing agreement, or until the Company and Union negotiate agreement to such proposed changes in the terms and conditions of your workplace.
Personally, I believe it a good idea to create a separate uniform for the Airporter, particularly now that it'll be operated in a uniquely painted vehicle. I would hope that input from those that would actually wear the clothing would go into the creation of such a uniform. We tried that once. Nothing suggested or even agreed upon made the final selection. Perhaps this time?
Of course, if the Company should determine this uniform to be the specified shirt, tie, and trousers for all work performed, let us hope they also include the goofy shoes, clown noses, and face paint befitting such an outfit. At least then, we will not be recognized by our peers when in public!
